Oct 8th - Special Encounter!

Today we encountered some Special Transient Orcas and a Humpback. We encountered the Transient Orcas South East of Race Rocks and knew right away we had special Orcas. With the help of the Center for Whale Research and Jared Towers from DFO, the Orcs were identified as CA166 (the male) and UO31, UO52/CA173 plus UO81. According to Jared, UO81 is a rare visitor and only been seen off Vancouver Island & Sitka Alaska a few times. This may have been one of or even the first time UO81 has been seen in the Salish Sea :) We also encountered a Humpback Whale near Race feeding in the tide lines!
