Dolphins & Porpoise!

 

Harbor Porpoise can be seen in large groups, sometimes several hundred in good feeding areas such as Beaumont Shoals.

 

 

Pacific White-sided Dolphins are occasional visitors to the Salish Sea but over the last few years have been seen more frequently and often in large numbers. They are also known as Lags due to their latin name Lagenorhynchus obliquidens

 

 

 

The Salish Sea is home to two species of Porpoise, Dall's & Harbor, and at least one species of Dolphin, Pacific White-Sided!

 

 

Dall's Porpoise are one of the fastest species of Cetacean in the world and can reach speeds of over 50kph. They are playful and often are seen bow riding boats & Rooster Tailing.
