April 2nd - Jpod Encountered!
Today we had our first encounter with Jpod of 2016 and got to see the new calf J54 smile emoticon We first noticed J28 "Polaris" and then saw her little calf, J54, who was born in Dec 2015! We watched them doing some hunting and also playing in the waves. This was the first time we had seen J54 as he was born after our final trip of the 2015 season. The young kid looked healthy, happy and very playful!We then moved a little further offshore into Haro Strait and encountered more of Jpod, including J22 and her son J34 “DoubleStuf”, who is becoming a very big boy! It was great to see Jpod again and all looked very healthy.Apart from the Orcas we also encountered Sea Lions, Harbor Seals and Bald Eagles during the tour. Despite a little bit of rough seas it was a great day on the water and a very enjoyable trip.
