July - Big Mama & the Humpback Comeback!

In what we are now calling "Big Mama & the Humpback Comeback" (thanks to one of our guests for the idea ;) ) , here are a few pictures from this season's incredible Humpback Whale encounters! This season we are witnessing Humpback action that has not been seen in the Salish Sea for 100 years since whaling began. "Big Mama" started this comeback around 15 years ago when she first returned to the Salish Sea. Since then she has been back every year and has now brought at least 6 calves to our local waters! Over the last few weeks we have seen over 20 Humpbacks in our area and many of them have been lunge feeding, something we rarely saw in previous years. What we are seeing out there is mind blowing, we hope it continues :)
