This morning we had an incredible encounter with a Transient Orca T-Party & Humpbacks near Race Rocks! The Transient Orcas included the T2c’s, T75’s, T77’s and T87, plus many more, in fact almost 20 Transient Orcas in total. Some of these Transient Orcas have not been seen in the Salish Sea for a while so it was a rare treat to see them.
At Race Rocks we saw Harbor Seals, Sea Lions, Elephant Seals, the Sea Otter and Bald Eagles, showing once again what a jewel this ecological reserve truly is!
We also encountered “Big Mama” & her Calf east of race Rocks and the calf was being playful once again
As we were on scene with the Orcs in the morning they began to split into three or four separate groups as they passed Race Rocks and we could see T87 head east on his own. Two groups passed close by Victoria and another large group went further south towards the American border as they traveled East.
This afternoon we encountered Transient Orcas & Humpbacks close to Victoria! The Transients were the T2C’s and we encountered them in Oak Bay hunting Seals. The T2C’s include T2C2, an eleven-year-old male that has scoliosis, which has made his dorsal fin deformed but easily identifiable.
We also encountered “Big Mama” & her Calf near Constance Bank as they slowly traveled east in the afternoon!
