Today we had a wonderful encounter with Big Mama and her Calf near Eastern Bank!It looks like Big Mama is teaching her Calf all the best spots in the Salish Sea to find food as yesterday she had been up by Beaumont Shoals but had traveled south overnight to a new feeding ground. At the moment the calf will be feeding on Moms rich milk but eventually will begin feeding on small fish or krill, just like Mom. The Calf will likely stay with Mom until about 8 months old and then will be on its own. This is Calf #6 that we know of that Big Mama has brought to the Salish Sea and it is making news headlines in local & international news :)
