Today we had a T-Party with a large group of Transient Orcas a few miles north of Port Townsend :) The Orcas were identified as the TO49A’s, TO65A’s, the TO65B’s, TO123’s and TO49C who was a few miles west of the others. While we watched the main group we witnessed some incredible action including countless breaches, tail slaps, pectoral slaps, cartwheels, inverted tail lobs and more! It was more actions than we could have imagined from Transient Orcas, who usually are trying to be very stealthy as they hunt their favourite prey (Harbor Seals & Harbor Porpoise) but today they were having a T-Party :)
TO49C, is a big Male Orca know as one of the Twins (the other one is TO77A) due to their unique markings on the trailing edge of the dorsal fin. Sometimes they hang out together but today TO49C was traveling on his own away from the main group. We sometimes encounter him completely on his own.
Apart from the Transient Orcas we also saw Harbor Seals & Harbor Porpoise as well as Bad Eagles. It was another special day in the Salish Sea!
