Today we had a wonderful encounter with part of Jpod post south of Secretary Island! We had no reports of whales in our area when we headed out but not long into the tour we got a report of Orcas out west We made our way to the area quickly and as we arrived on scene we were the only boat around and soon realized we had Jpod! The Orcas were spread out but we had a wonderful encounter with the J16′, which includes J16, J26, J36, J42, J50 & J52. J50 & J52 were part of the recent “Baby Boom” in the Southern Resident Orcas and both looked very healthy and were goofing around as often is the case, especially with J50 The J16’s did not seem in any hurry and we watched the group as they played around together and socialized, all the time being the only boat on scene.

Finally as other boats began to arrive we took off towards Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. At race Rocks we saw Harbor Seals, Northern Elephant Seals, Steller Sea Lions, California Sea Lions, a Sea Otter (always so cute) and Bald Eagles.

What an amazing trip it turned out to be and just shows you never know what you will find in the Salish Sea
